QUEEN’S PARK – During a committee hearing, NDP shadow minister for education MPP Chandra Pasma (Ottawa west – Nepean) pressed Minister of Education Paul Calandra on the salaries of the government-appointed school supervisors replacing democratically elected trustees. The Minister revealed that these unelected supervisors are being paid $2,000 a day, with an allowance of 3 billed days a week, with a maximum total of 350,000 a year of taxpayer money.
“It is absolutely shocking that this government is paying unelected school supervisors $350,000 a year to ignore parents and communities,” said MPP Chandra Pasma. “These supervisors were hand-picked by the Minister to replace democratically elected school board trustees, yet they’ve been hiding from parents since their appointments. They don't respond to emails and phone calls, they don’t attend committee meetings, and they won't answer media questions. These are lucrative salaries for appointees who refuse to engage with the people they’re supposed to serve. Ontario families deserve transparency, accountability, and local representation, not government cronies collecting six-figure salaries to silence community voices.”
We're so happy to have you on the team. We'll be in touch soon.
