NDP: Schools need investments, not government power grabs and political games

OTTAWA – Shadow Minister for Education Chandra Pasma (Ottawa West--Nepean) issued the following statement following Minister Calandra’s announcement about taking over four school boards:

“Since this Government has come into power, it has chronically underfunded our education system, taking out $6.36 billion from our classrooms,” said Pasma.

“What the children of this province really need is investments in their future, not power grabs and political games. Minister Calandra and the Progressive Conservatives are using this as an opportunity to hand out partisan appointments to individuals with no background in education and no interest in the future of our kids.

“This is the fifth Minister of Education under Ford in the last eight years, and it’s clear that this administration does not care about the future of our kids.

It’s time to stop the blame game and properly fund our schools.”
